Prolegemona, Till-When, that When-of-Competence re "Maccabean Faithwarring," Then/Now

I do NOT think I shall be able to present adequate, smartly-done exegesis of any of (the four) books of Maccabees, as found in the Septuagint, for perhaps another year; by Hanukkah of 2019, I just might be able to send-out more on the Maccabees than seasonal cards to warmer acquaintances. I here and now shall dwell a little on why I think this "long pregancy" till the "birth" of this child-of-study shall in fact occur...

I am schooled in the hermeneutics of Friedrich Schleiermacher, having read a couple of English editions of Hermeneutics and Criticism and keep on/at reading the originally-German work; Fredrich Blass also has an admirable excursus on hermeneutics which in every way seems to be based on Schleiermacher. This method of interpretation of text for understanding requires for-study/prolegemona, but when that precedent is accomplished, and more important is a reading of the text in the original language with close attention to textual content and prosody.

I am in the University of Louisville USA 40208/or-40292 studying Classic languages, that is Greek and Latin; my proficiency in Greek year-3 is at A+ grade level; in second-year Latin my offical college grade runs A but feel in reality to be more like a low-B (my prior year of Latin in high school did not take up the subjunctive mood, exceedingly important for Latin syntax, but still at 3/4 semester in "201" a challenge!) To get to a Schleiermacherian excellence, I think next year-- with Septuagint immersion in the four texts-- I will be able to celebrate (as near-dogmaless Christian for Kantian transcendentals witting) Hanukkah next year as here desired. Jerome's Latin (with just two Maccabees to read) will take its own time, suggestably after Latin 301... "there are no certainties in this," as an employer would say for job seekers near the "cut-low point."

I have some biases: "faith warriors" are just as evil as good to me, especially the zealots all around me here "at the buckle of the Bible Belt" who pray certainty that the Russian money-laundering, whore-mongering Mafioso in the "DC swamp" and "swamp-maker" himself will wind up sending Q M2F persons like me to a Siberian Gulag, phun for Biblebanging Fundy Faith Warriors to pray me Fire out of this flesh-side existence. The Maccabees were faith-warriors too, one might think for the best of reasons were faith-war-practitioners. Still, the 'Nam-era draftdodger in me gets puky about this so-called religion, even translatably into Hellenistic times, as here.

Prolegemonon: I am reading probably 12 books on the Maccabees; I am bit by bit "doing" the original texts of Maccabees; I have in-English read trans of all four texts. The blog, here, will abet any (imaginable? somebody out there a-damn-to-give?) who would care to keep posted on this coursework, a work-in-progress begging seminar with Who? that is! There is a Google Classroom course already online to present findings-so-far; this paragraph is hyperlinked to the site, with the near-pathetic chance that one might care for Maccabee-like faith warring, then, and in sidelong ways, to this Trumped-up Church-Military-and-Militant Now...
